  • Location: Remotely 75% of the time (work from home in Southern Idaho)

Position Overview: The Mid-Senior Energy Engineer is responsible for working with industrial clients to identify projects to reduce energy usage, quantifying energy savings and helping determine eligible incentives for clients.  This includes a lot of problem solving, collaboration and interaction with customers. This is a work-from-home position that requires boots on the ground in Southern Idaho. This engineer will work closely with two other Energy 350 engineers located in Boise.

A typical day may include:

  • Conducting energy efficiency studies in the commercial and industrial sectors
  • Retrocommissioning/building optimization
  • Working with commercial and industrial customers to scope and develop energy efficiency projects
  • Working with mechanical and controls contractors to scope commercial HVAC related energy efficiency projects and communicating utility incentive program requirements
  • Energy Engineering / Energy Analysis
  • Conducting on-site Measurement & Verification of energy savings
  • Writing technical reports for non-technical audiences
  • Working in a dynamic, challenging and collaborative environment

Qualifications:

We are looking for a technical person with excellent communication skills and the ability to actively engage various stakeholders to participate in local energy efficiency incentive programs.

Ideal candidates will have many of the following skills and experience:

  • Advanced degrees and/or great experience preferred; bachelor’s degree required
  • 5 or more years of experience in the energy efficiency field
  • Experience analyzing energy systems and quantifying annual energy savings
  • A high energy, self-starter with excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Industrial or commercial energy efficiency experience
  • Working knowledge of commercial and industrial mechanical systems and building science
  • Ability to breakdown complex data sets to conduct root analysis and present meaningful observations applying data visualization tools
  • Capability to work autonomously with good project & time management skills
  • Excellent writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills

This full-time position requires location in Southern Idaho and working from a home office to serve industrial and commercial sites for local utility programs. Relocation assistance will be provided.

Your primary tasks will include conducting emerging technology research, product enhancement assessments, analyzing field performance data, policy research and analysis, writing reports, creating and reviewing energy models, and engaging with residential and commercial end-users. This dynamic position requires collaboration with a wide variety of stakeholders ranging from utility program representatives, end users, designers, contractors, manufacturers, and Energy 350 staff.

A typical day may include:

  • Performing research analyses using visualization tools (Tableau, Excel, etc.)
  • Conducting analyses and research to support efficiency and decarbonization policy approaches
  • Creating or reviewing energy models, calculating energy savings, writing technical reports, and reviewing engineering analyses
  • Supporting development and continuous improvement of new and existing efficiency programs
  • Participating in industry collaboratives and other events or conferences
  • Working collaboratively with the Energy 350 team to deliver high-level service to our clients
  • Helping to influence energy policy on a program, state, regional and national level.

Qualifications:

We are looking for an engineer with proficiency in energy efficiency in the residential and commercial sectors.

  • Understanding of regional energy efficiency measures, programs, and policies aimed at the commercial
    and residential sectors
  • 3-6 years of engineering experience in mechanical systems and energy efficiency
  • Knowledge of the commercial and residential HVAC supply chain, including regional or national market
  • Knowledge and experience interacting with contractors or distributors
  • Building science knowledge including HVAC design and/or construction administration experience
  • Experience with heat pumps for space and/or water heating in the residential and/or commercial sector
  • Decarbonization/electrification project or program experience
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to break down complex analyses into easily explainable terms for non-technical audiences
  • Solid presentation skills and experience with public speaking
  • Undergraduate degree, advanced degrees, and/or other relevant professional experience
