Cian Whalen
Cian Whalen is a Strategic Energy Management (SEM) Coach at Energy 350.
Cian’s professional background is in community outreach, engagement, and education. A staunch advocate for bike commuting, Cian worked on marketing and outreach to spread the word about Eugene, OR’s bike share program. Cian enjoys finding the unique ways and reasons people are drawn to different opportunities—whether that’s riding bikes more often or saving energy at their facility.
Cian has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies from the University of Oregon with a focus on education, outreach, and philosophy. He also has a Master of Science in Energy and Sustainability from Northwestern University, where he gained experience in sustainability consulting for a national industry association and a passion for demand side energy management.
When not at work, Cian’s interests can be divided into outdoorsy, indoors-y and the kitchen-y. Outdoorsy interests include any self-powered water sports, most types of biking, a leisurely hangout in the park, and hiking/backpacking. Indoors interests include finding delicious Portland food, seeing movies & live music, and non-competitive video games. Kitchen interests include bread baking and regularly going down rabbit holes trying to perfect certain recipes—longest running of which is a good bowl of ramen.
